About Me

WELCOME to my little arty world! Trying to make art is a huge part of my life ... love nothing more than messing around with inks and sprays and generally making a mess!

WOYWW 143

Further chaos this week as it is still too cold to work in my normal, preferred crafting space so stuff piled on the chair to leave me room at the dining room table to work.

And what a mess it is!  Never mind ... managed to get the three cards I really needed to make done and dusted and, as you can see from the screen on the laptop, I was chatting on Facebook at the same time!  Talk about multi-tasking.

The blue tag with Tim Holtz's "Umbrella Man" on the left is just an experiment ... my sister-in-law saw a card I'd made and just happened to ask how I'd done a certain effect so, of course, I had to show her and that blue tag was just me quickly demonstrating various techniques ... it must have been tucked amongst stuff in my Tim Holtz box and migrated to the table at some point during my rummaging.

The three cards turned out pink and sparkly - not my cup of tea at all as I don't do pink but am not adverse to a little bit of sparkle.

This one is for the sister of my sister-in-law (the one mentioned above who got an impromptu demo!) - she was just diagnosed with breast cancer and I wanted to let her know I was thinking of her but didn't want to mention her illness nor say "get well soon" so came up with this.  I never really know what to do in situations like this ... never quite know what to say or even if I should send a card or not.  I think it is maybe ok to do so.

Next card is one for a friend whom hit a low spot last week and got herself into a tizz for needing to take a little time for herself.  She is always there for others and is just a joyous person to know - actually, I only know her as a cyberfriend but count her as one of my dearest friends.
Anyway I have put together a little "pamper-kit" to post to her ... a bag of lovely smellies (bubble bath, shower gel, lotion etc.,) together with a little bottle of wine, a candle and the largest block of Cadbury's Dairy Milk you can get) - as the toiletries and candle are pink I thought the card just had to be pink too!  It is just to remind her it is ok to not be there 100% all of the time for others and you have to look after yourself too.

I wasn't at all happy with the back of this card.  I started to make it out of Ranger's "Stamping Card" ... just couldn't get on with it so ended up sticking it to one of my much preferred Tim Holtz (I wonder how many times I can get the words Tim Holtz into one blog posting?!?!?!) craft tags and tried to make the best of the side I had already started.  It's kinda, sorta ok for the back of the tag but I can't see me using the rest of the sheets in the packet.  Will need to experiment I guess.

And finally the last card ... such a story behind this one it has a posting all of its own!

Now off to link myself to WOYWW over on Julia's Stamping Ground blog and hope to get round to visiting as many blogs as I can today and hubby is out tonight so might just spend the evening popping in too!

Happy WOYWW'ing everyone!!!!!

  6. They are all cards with such thought behind them. When I had cancer ever acknowledgement from someone in the form of an unexpected phonecall, a receipe, a postcard from holiday etc. all helped. Not feeling alone is the most important thing.

  7. The only reason I am so far up the list this week, and last week too, is that I sat up last night to log on as soon as Julia put Mr Linky up. It looks as though you are having fun, courtesy of TH and Neil. Hope you didn't drink any of that paint. If I get something that does not work to begin with, I usually put it somewhere that I can see it whenever I walk round the house. That gives me the chance to come up with a recovery idea. I have only thrown two things away completely. Have a good week. xx Maggie #9
PS I should think you know exactly who the sampler was for, if you zoom in, you can read the names.

  11. I think it is great that you are sending a card to your sister-in-law. Sometimes the best thing to say is "thinking of you." I like all your goodies on your desk. In that top photo you have these little bins with locking handles, they sort of look like crates. I have been eyeing those myself at the office store recently.... Lots of creativity going on in your place.

  22. What a kind friend to send a little pick my up to your friend. Reminds me of why I got into crafting in the first place....thanks for the wonderful reminder!

  23. Wow! Beautiful cards! Pink or not, they're gorgeous. And the little package for your friend sounds so sweet! That should make anyone feel better!

Not that you asked for advice or anything, but coming from someone who's husband has had cancer three different times, I can tell you that saying something...some kind words, a card, ANYTHING, is better than nothing at all. You feel alone and scared, and it's the best time to hear a few reassuring words from friends or aquaintances. Even if it's just, "I'm sorry" or, "I'm thinking about you."

    Okay, enough unwarranted advice!

Thanks for your comments on my desk and Washi tape. You should really check it out....it's fun! Even Tim Holtz has some in his line of goodies!

  36. A busy table indeed Debbie, with lots going on by the looks of things.
I’m sure your sister-in-laws sister is going to be thrilled to know that you are thinking of her but I know what you mean about being in a dilemma about sending it to here. I personally think the longer the subject is avoided the harder it will become to mention so the sooner the deed is done then you can all just get on with things.

    Thanks for stopping by.
    Happy Crafting!

  40. I've read both posts and can say that despite all your experimental stresses, the cards are just lovely. And your reasons for sending hem, very thoughtful. Once they're done and posted, I bet you'll need to have another go at the acetate technique!

  41. Love the tags! Sorry it's chilly where you are having to implement a second creative space can be a pain in the rear because you always need the very thing you forgot to bring to the new area! Yes...some men have no understanding of artistic vision!
